Oudenaarde's flamboyant Gothic town hall is the city's showpiece, with a richly decorated facade and a slender belfry rising above the market square. The belfry is part of the UNESCO-listed Belfries of Belgium and France.
Even if you only see it from the square, the building is worth a deliberate stop. Look for the detailed stonework and the way the tower anchors the surrounding old town.
