The most photogenic castle in the area, in the village of Elene a few kilometres north of Zottegem. The 18th-century stately home is set in formal French gardens with clipped hedges, a long pond, and a green theatre — a circular open-air auditorium cut into the hedge that hosts occasional concerts.
The castle remains in private hands and is open to visitors only on European Heritage Days or by special arrangement, but the gardens are visible from the public road and an annual garden-fair weekend in spring makes for a worthwhile visit.
