Zenica is on the main north–south corridor through Bosnia. The motorway from Sarajevo (70 km, about an hour) ends just south of the city; from the north, the road from Doboj and Banja Luka is slower and follows the Bosna gorge.
Frequent trains run between Sarajevo and Zenica (around 90 minutes), making this one of the easier day trips out of the capital. Buses are more frequent than trains and serve a wider network — from the bus station near the city centre there are regular services to all major Bosnian cities and to Croatia and Serbia.
