Blagoevgrad is 100 km south of Sofia on the E79/A3 motorway — about 90 minutes by car. The road follows the Struma River valley south through attractive countryside. Bus services between Sofia and Blagoevgrad are frequent (roughly every 30-60 minutes throughout the day) and take about 90 minutes; buses depart from Sofia's Ovcha Kupel bus station.
Trains also connect Sofia with Blagoevgrad, though the service is slower than the bus and less frequent. The journey takes around 2.5 hours. The train station and main bus station are both within walking distance of the city centre.
Blagoevgrad has no airport. The nearest is Sofia Airport (SOF), with connections throughout Europe and beyond.
