The Southern Gate is Hisarya's postcard image: a tall Roman entrance with twin rounded forms that gave it the local nickname "the Camels." It formed part of a late Roman wall circuit that enclosed the ancient city, with towers and gates set around a roughly rectangular plan.
The walls are not a fragment hidden behind a fence. They shape the town. You can follow long stretches of masonry through parks and residential streets, which makes Hisarya feel less like an archaeological site and more like a modern spa town living inside its Roman shell.
