Eating Out

Plovdiv has an excellent and growing restaurant scene, particularly in the Kapana quarter and the old town. Bulgarian cuisine is hearty and meat-focused — grilled meats, stews, rich soups — but the city also has a cosmopolitan range of options reflecting its history as a trading crossroads. The wine — from the nearby Thracian Valley vineyards — is underrated and excellent value.
