Getting There

By bus from Sofia: frequent intercity buses make the 2-hour journey on the Trakia motorway. Departures every 30-60 minutes from the Sofia central bus station. This is the most practical option from the capital.

By train from Sofia: takes slightly longer than the bus (2.5-3 hours) and the Sofia central railway station is more central; worth considering. International trains connect Plovdiv to Istanbul and Thessaloniki.

By air: Plovdiv Airport (PDV) is 12 km from the city centre and handles mainly charter and low-cost flights from Western European cities. Wizz Air and Ryanair run services to various European airports. A taxi from the airport to the centre costs around 20-25 BGN.

From the southern Bulgarian towns and the Greek border at Kapitan Andreevo, Plovdiv is well connected by both bus and train.
