The Small Basilica Archaeological Site preserves part of a late-antique Christian basilica from Philippopolis, the Roman and early Byzantine predecessor of Plovdiv. Its mosaics, baptistery, and compact footprint make it easier to grasp than some larger ruins, especially after seeing the city's Roman theatre and forum.
It pairs naturally with the Great Basilica, but it has a quieter scale and a more intimate presentation. The site is useful for understanding how Plovdiv's ancient city continued into the early Christian period, when mosaic floors and church plans replaced the public architecture of classical Rome.
