Imaret Mosque

15th-century Ottoman mosque near the Maritsa River, quieter than Plovdiv's central Dzhumaya Mosque.

Imaret Mosque stands near the Maritsa River, a little away from the busiest stretch of Plovdiv's old centre. Built in the mid-15th century, it belonged to the Ottoman layer of the city, when mosques, markets, bridges, and charitable kitchens reshaped the streets north of the ancient core. Its brickwork and minaret reward a closer look even if the interior is not open when you pass.

It is an active mosque, so visit quietly and avoid prayer times unless you are attending. The stop makes most sense as part of a walk between the pedestrian centre and the river, especially for travellers interested in Plovdiv beyond the Roman theatre and Revival houses.
