Fort Clonque sits on a rocky islet off Alderney's west coast, connected to the shore by a causeway that disappears at high tide. It is smaller than Fort Tourgis but more dramatic in setting: granite walls, a drawbridge, and waves breaking around the rocks give it the feel of a fortress deliberately placed at the edge of the island.
The fort is now managed as Landmark Trust accommodation, so casual visitors should expect to admire it from the outside rather than wander through the rooms. Time the walk for low tide, then continue along the coast path for views back over Clonque Bay and the western forts.
