Central Market

The Central Market is one of the finest Victorian iron-and-glass market halls in the British Isles — a soaring cast-iron structure built in 1882 with a fountain at its centre and light flooding in through the roof. Inside, flower stalls, delis, a fishmonger, a butcher, a decent cafe, and a handful of independent food sellers line the aisles. It is unpretentious and real: this is where Jersey people actually shop, not a tourist imitation of a market.

Jersey's proximity to France shows in the cheese and charcuterie on offer. The cafe in the back corner is a good spot for breakfast or a mid-morning coffee. The adjacent Beresford Market, a few steps away, is slightly more workaday but worth a look for the fresh fish and seafood landed that morning at the harbour.
