Eating Out

Porec eats well. The Istrian larder is one of the best in Croatia — black and white truffles from the inland hills, sheep's milk cheeses, prsut (air-dried ham), seafood from the Adriatic, and excellent olive oil.

Konoba Daniela in the village of Veleniki, ten minutes from town, is a working farmhouse restaurant with truffle-heavy menus, fuzi pasta, and game in autumn. Konoba Ulixes in the old town does grilled fish on a small terrace tucked off the Decumanus. Marlera by the harbour serves the classic Istrian fish dishes — scampi buzara, brodet, baked sea bass — with views of the boats.

For something more casual, the streetside pizzerias on Trg Slobode are reliable, and Cake Caffe just inside the city walls makes some of the best burek and pastries in Istria. The supermarkets sell good local olive oil and truffle products if you want to take some home.
