Standing at the western entrance to the old town where the Decumanus begins, the Pentagonal Tower is a 15th-century Gothic fortification that once guarded the city gates. A carved Venetian lion relief on the stonework marks the period of Venetian rule that shaped so much of Poreč's character.
The tower is one of several medieval remnants along the old town's perimeter. You can walk the walls and take in the views over the surrounding sea — a good orientation point before heading down the Decumanus toward the Euphrasian Basilica.
