Sveti Nikola Island

Small wooded island five minutes by boat from the old town

The long, low island closing off Porec harbour from the open sea has been a private resort for decades, but day-trippers are welcome. The five-minute taxi-boat hop from the old town runs every 20 minutes through the summer.

Most of the island is given over to pine woods, with paths leading to small pebble beaches and rocky bathing spots on the seaward side. There is a lighthouse, a restaurant, and very little else — exactly the point. Bring a book and swimming gear and lose an afternoon.
