Getting There

Rijeka has its own international airport (RJK) on the island of Krk, connected to the mainland by bridge. It is served by seasonal flights from a number of European cities. The main airport for year-round connections is Zagreb (ZAG), about 160 km to the northeast; buses run regularly between the two cities and take around two hours.

By train, Rijeka is connected to Zagreb (about 4 hours) and there are occasional international services. The city's bus station handles frequent intercity routes to Zagreb, Split, and the Istrian towns. Ferries to the Kvarner islands — Cres, Lošinj, Krk, and Rab — depart from the port, which is within walking distance of the centre.
