The small working harbour is the centre of Trpanj. Fishing boats tie up beside the ferry terminal that runs the short crossing to Ploče on the mainland; in summer a handful of cafes and restaurants fill the waterfront tables and the small beach at the eastern end fills with families.
It is not pretty in the postcard sense — Trpanj is a working village, not a polished tourist set-piece — but it is genuine and quiet outside the peak weeks of July and August. The walk along the seafront west to the small fortified Church of St Peter is the obvious orientation stroll.
