Cathedral of St Anastasia

Zadar's Romanesque cathedral, the largest in Dalmatia, was completed in the 13th century on the site of an earlier 4th-century basilica. Its facade — three tiers of blind arcades and small rose windows in white stone — is one of the finest pieces of Romanesque architecture in Croatia, and the interior preserves a fine 13th-century mosaic floor over some sections.

The bell tower, finished only in the 19th century to a design by the British architect T. G. Jackson, can be climbed for a panoramic view of the old town, the harbour, and the islands beyond. Reckon on around 180 stone steps; the climb is steep but not strenuous.
