Březinka Infantry Blockhouse

N-S 82 "Březinka" is a restored infantry blockhouse from the chain of bunkers that Czechoslovakia built in the 1930s to defend against a German attack. Volunteers have brought it back to wartime condition: armoured doors, periscopes, machine-gun and anti-tank mountings, the kitchen, the dormitory, the generator room, and the deep concrete corridors that connect them.

The bunker is a short walk uphill from the marked green tourist trail starting in Náchod. It is open daily in July and August, weekends and holidays in May, June and September, generally from late morning to late afternoon. Entrance is by donation. The exterior, including the panoramic view across the valley toward Polish Silesia, can be visited at any time.

A story
The blockhouses of the Czechoslovak border line were never fired in anger. After the Munich Agreement in October 1938, the country surrendered them to Germany without a shot — Hitler later visited Březinka in person to inspect the fortifications he had taken by diplomacy.
