The long, narrow main square running through the old town is lined with arcaded burgher houses in pastel colours, a Marian column in the centre, and the town hall at the upper end. Most of the buildings are Baroque rebuilds on Gothic plots — the underground cellars beneath many of them are medieval.
This is where Náchod's daily life happens: a couple of cafés with outdoor tables, the weekly market, the bus stops at the lower end. It's also the natural starting point for the walk up to the castle.
