Alphonse Mucha was Czech, and the museum devoted to his work is a surprisingly intimate space a short walk from Wenceslas Square. The collection includes original Art Nouveau posters — many of them the theatrical advertisements for Sarah Bernhardt that made his name in 1890s Paris — alongside drawings, pastels, photographs, and personal objects.

Mucha spent his most celebrated years in Paris and later in America, but he returned to Prague and devoted his final decades to the Slav Epic, a cycle of twenty enormous canvases chronicling Slavic mythology and history. The Epic itself is housed separately in Veletržní Palace. The museum is small and the crowd is manageable — a pleasant hour between other sights in the center.
