Café ved Søen — the café by the lake — sits at the edge of Gentofte Sø and is the natural stop after a circuit of the lake path. The café is simple and unpretentious: coffee, cake, and a few light lunch options served at wooden tables that spill out onto a terrace in good weather. On warm days the terrace fills quickly with joggers finishing a run, parents pushing prams, and locals who have come specifically for this pause rather than the exercise that preceded it.
The setting does most of the work. The lake and its surrounding reeds are visible from every table outside, and the atmosphere is correspondingly quiet and low-key. It is not a destination in the way that Ordrupgaard or Bakken are destinations, but it is exactly the kind of place that makes spending an afternoon in Gentofte feel worthwhile.
