The S-tog (suburban rail) is the backbone of getting to and around Gentofte from Copenhagen. Line C runs from central Copenhagen through Hellerup, Gentofte, and on to Klampenborg in about 20–25 minutes. Charlottenlund has its own station on the same line. Trains run every 10 minutes during the day. A Copenhagen City Pass or a two-zone ticket covers the journey from central Copenhagen.
By bike, the coastal route north from Copenhagen along the Strandvejen is one of the finest urban cycling paths in Denmark — largely flat, well-maintained, and following the sea all the way to Klampenborg. Allow around 45 minutes from the city centre.
Copenhagen Airport is connected to central Copenhagen by the Metro; from there take the S-tog north. Total journey time from the airport to Gentofte is around 40–50 minutes. There is no need to hire a car — the S-tog and the cycle paths give access to everything in the municipality.
