Køge is one of the easiest day trips from Copenhagen. The S-train line E runs direct from Copenhagen Central Station and takes about 45 minutes. Trains run every 10 minutes during the day and every 20 minutes in the evenings. The station is a 5-minute walk from the main square. A Copenhagen city transport card covers the whole journey — no separate ticket needed if you already have one.
By car, Køge is 40 km south of Copenhagen via the E47/E55 motorway. Parking is easy by Danish city standards; there is a large car park near the harbour and street parking throughout the historic centre.
Cycling from Copenhagen is possible via the coastal route along Køge Bugt — about 35 km and mostly flat, with a dedicated cycle path most of the way. Several S-train stations along the route let you cut the journey short if energy runs low.
