Kolding's main draw is its castle — Koldinghus is one of the most architecturally interesting historical buildings in Denmark, combining medieval ruins with a bold modernist restoration. Below the castle the compact old town is pleasant to walk, with good cafes and the pedestrianised main street. The Trapholt museum of modern art to the east is worth the short detour, and the Geographical Garden behind the castle is better than it sounds.
