Sønderborg's eating is concentrated along the harbour and on Perlegade. The signature dishes here are South Jutland — smoked eel, herring, fried plaice, and the substantial cakes called sønderjysk kaffebord (a coffee table of seven or more types of cake served as a single meal). A handful of newer restaurants in the redeveloped harbour push more ambitious Nordic cooking.
