The Saxby Lighthouse marks the western tip of Vormsi, a slender cast-iron tower from 1864 still painted in the old red-and-white bands. The structure was prefabricated and shipped here by sea — at the time one of the more advanced engineering projects in the Baltic.
The lighthouse stands at the end of a sandy track through pine forest and dune. There is no entry to the tower, but the spot is one of the loneliest on the island and the sunsets are excellent. Bring a bicycle from the ferry if you want to make this part of a day-long loop.
