Getting Around

Central Jyväskylä is easy to walk — the market square, the main museums, and the Aalto buildings are all within twenty minutes on foot. The university campus and Harju Park are a ten-to-fifteen-minute walk from the centre. The lakeside cycling paths make a bicycle the ideal way to explore in good weather; bike rental is available from a few shops and from the tourist office.

Local buses connect to outlying areas including Säynätsalo (for the Town Hall) and the airport. A car is useful if you want to explore the lakes and forests around the city, which open up the region considerably. Taxis are available from the central station.
