Iitto Palsa Bog is an unusually easy place to see a palsa bog, a northern wetland where permanently frozen ice lenses lift the peat into low mounds. Most palsa landscapes require a long walk into open fell country; here a short nature trail starts near the highway and gives a clear look at the feature.
It is a brief stop rather than a major hike, but a worthwhile one if you are travelling through the Kilpisjarvi area and want to understand the Arctic landscape under your feet.
