Three-Country Cairn

Remote marker where Finland, Sweden, and Norway meet beside Lake Kuohkimajärvi.

The Three-Country Cairn marks the point where Finland, Sweden, and Norway meet. It is a simple concrete marker in a broad Arctic landscape, and the pleasure is less the monument than the feeling of walking through an open borderland.

In summer the usual trip combines a boat across Lake Kilpisjärvi with a 3 km walk from Koltalahti. Strong walkers can reach it on foot through Malla Strict Nature Reserve. Carry ID and stay on marked routes in the reserve.
