Salla is reached by road from Kemijärvi, Rovaniemi, or Kuusamo. Buses run, but schedules are sparse and usually built around school, work, or resort traffic rather than casual sightseeing.
The nearest useful railhead is Kemijärvi, with onward bus or taxi connections. In winter, check road conditions carefully: distances are long, darkness comes early, and temperatures can be severe.
