Winter is the classic Salla season: snow, cross-country skiing, snowshoeing, reindeer activities, and a fair chance of northern lights if the sky clears. It is also properly cold; temperatures near -30C are not exotic here.
Summer brings long daylight, hiking, canoeing, and easier access to the forest trails. September can be excellent for autumn colour and quieter travel, though services narrow outside the main seasons.
