The student population gives Oulu a much livelier bar scene than its population suggests. The centre around Hallituskatu and Pakkahuoneenkatu is the main drag, with a strip of bars open late at the weekends. Cafes around the market hall do a brisk trade in summer with terraces on the waterfront.
