Oulu's centre is compact and walkable. Start at the Kauppatori (market square) by the river, with the toripolliisi statue and the line of red-painted wooden storehouses on the harbour. From there it is a short walk to the Cathedral and the pedestrian Rotuaari street, and across the bridge to the island parks of Pikisaari and Hupisaaret.
