The historic centre is tiny and easily walked. Oulu's real distinction is its bike network — about 900 km of paths around the city and along the coast, kept clear of snow and ice through the winter to a standard found almost nowhere else in Europe. Renting a bike at one of the city stands is the fastest way to see Oulu and the surrounding parkland and beaches.
Local buses cover the wider city if needed.
