Kuuskajaskari is a former coastal fortress island in the Rauma archipelago, now opened as a summer destination. The attraction is the mix: sea air, rocky Finnish island scenery, old military structures, and the slight adventure of leaving the mainland.
It makes a good counterpoint to Old Rauma's wooden streets. After a day among painted houses and lace-making history, Kuuskajaskari shows the maritime and defensive side of the coast, with enough open space to feel like an outing rather than a museum visit.
