Finlayson Church

The Finlayson Church (Finlaysonin kirkko) was built in 1879 to serve the factory workers of the Finlayson complex, funded by the factory owners. It is a compact Neo-Gothic building in red brick that fits naturally into the surrounding industrial architecture. The interior is simple and Lutheran — stripped of ornament in a way that makes the Tampere Cathedral's Simberg frescoes seem even more radical by comparison.

A minor sight in isolation, but worth a look when exploring the Finlayson area, where it sits at the west end of the factory complex.
