Tampere Pirkkala Airport (TMP) has domestic connections to Helsinki and seasonal European routes, but most international visitors arrive by train. The railway station is central and well-connected: Helsinki is 1.5–2 hours away by intercity train, with trains running frequently throughout the day. The station is the hub of the local tram network.
From Helsinki airport, the bus connection (Onnibus or Expressbus) takes about 2 hours and is cheaper than the train. Long-distance buses connect Tampere to most other Finnish cities. The E12 motorway from Helsinki is well-maintained and takes about 1.5 hours by car.
