Vaasa eats well by Finnish standards. The Gulf of Bothnia provides excellent whitefish, perch, and zander, and the bilingual Finnish-Swedish culture here has produced a slightly wider culinary range than most comparably sized Finnish cities. The market hall and market square are the anchors of everyday eating; the harbour area comes alive in summer.
