Wasa Graffitilandia occupies the site of Wasalandia, the amusement park that operated on Vaskiluoto island until it closed. Rather than demolish the park structures, the city repurposed the old railway warehouse and park buildings as an open-air street art space. The walls are available for anyone to paint — and people do, continuously. The result is a constantly changing gallery of graffiti and street art, ranging from quick tags to elaborate murals.
The setting adds to the appeal. The abandoned ride structures, the weathered signage, and the industrial warehouse give the place an atmosphere that no purpose-built gallery could manufacture. It attracts a regular community of artists, and visiting on a weekend you will often find people actively working. Entry is free; spray cans are not.
