This unusual three-part museum, on the Place de la Myrpe, occupies a pair of half-timbered houses and tells the story of the three trades that made Bergerac wealthy from the Middle Ages onwards: wine production, the river transport that carried it down the Dordogne to Bordeaux, and the coopers who built the casks. The displays are small in scale but well done, with scale models of the flat-bottomed gabarres that worked the river, sets of cooper's tools, and a room on the vineyards of the Bergeracois.
Entry is free, which is generous given the quality. Combined with a stroll through the Place de la Myrpe and a stop at the Maison des Vins on the other side of the old town, it adds up to a complete and untiring introduction to the local wine country.
