Bergerac's old town fans out from the river along narrow lanes lined with half-timbered houses, with the Place Pelissière and the Place de la Myrpe at its heart. A handful of small, well-curated museums — most notably the Musée du Tabac on the cultural history of tobacco — give a half-day of indoor sightseeing when the weather turns. The real point of a stop in Bergerac, though, is to use it as a base for the surrounding Bergerac and Monbazillac wine country, both of which start within ten minutes of the town centre.
