Place du Coderc

Covered market hall and the city's everyday produce square

The place du Coderc is the working heart of Périgueux's food economy: a wide square with a 19th-century covered hall in the middle. Inside, traders sell cheese, charcuterie, fish and seasonal produce most days of the week. Outside, the square hosts the open-air market on Wednesday and Saturday mornings — the Saturday market is the larger one and the best in the Dordogne.

In truffle season (roughly mid-November to early March) you'll find the famous Périgord black truffles on dedicated stalls, sold by the gram with much sniffing and inspection.
