Things to Do

Saint-Jean-de-Luz rewards slow exploration. Start with the Église Saint-Jean-Baptiste — France's finest Basque church and the venue for the 1660 royal wedding. The Place Louis XIV is the social heart of town, good for coffee at any hour. Walk the port to watch the fishing boats unload, then find the Beach of Saint-Jean-de-Luz — one of the best protected beaches on the Atlantic coast. Day trips to Hondarribia across the Spanish border (5 km) or the mountain village of Sare are easy and worthwhile.
