Jardin de l'Évêché

The Jardin de l'Évêché — the Bishop's Garden — is a formal terraced garden behind the cathedral, stepping down from the episcopal buildings to a viewpoint over the Vienne river and the lower town. It is one of the most pleasant public spaces in Limoges, with a botanical collection of several hundred labelled plant species maintained by the municipality.

The garden is classified as a botanical garden and is officially attached to the cathedral and bishop's palace complex. In practice, it functions as a peaceful urban green space where Limoges residents come to sit at lunch and visitors come for the views. The combination of Gothic stonework, formal terraces, and the river below makes it a good place to understand the topography of the old Cité quarter.
