Ajaccio is well connected to mainland France by both air and sea.
By air: Campo dell'Oro Airport (AJA) is 8 km east of the city centre. Air France flies from Paris (CDG and Orly), Lyon, Nice, and Marseille; several budget carriers also serve the airport in summer. A taxi to the centre takes about 20 minutes and costs around €25. There is a regular bus (ligne 8) into the city for a few euros.
By ferry: The port is served by Corsica Ferries, La Méridionale, and Corsica Linea, with sailings from Nice (around 5 hours on the fast ferry), Marseille (10–12 hours overnight), and Toulon (around 10 hours). The overnight ferries from Marseille are comfortable and good value — you arrive rested and ready to go. Book ahead in July and August.
By road: Ajaccio is connected to Bastia by the main N193 through the centre of the island (about 3 hours). There is no motorway on Corsica; roads are winding and mountain driving takes longer than distances suggest.
