The pedestrianised streets of the Écusson are where to wander — Rue de la Loge, Rue Saint-Guilhem and the lanes around Place Saint-Roch are full of small boutiques, independent designers and second-hand shops. The covered market Halles Castellane off Rue de la Loge is a good lunch stop too.
For something more conventional, Polygone is a big mall right next to Place de la Comédie. Beyond it, the strange postmodern Antigone quarter leads to Odysseum, the city's edge-of-town shopping and entertainment district reached by tramline 1. Saturday morning is market morning — the Marché des Arceaux under the aqueduct arches is the best of several weekly farmers' markets.
