Things to Do

Start at the Place de la Comédie — the city's oval main square — and walk west into the medieval Écusson. Climb up to the Promenade du Peyrou for the best views in town and the elegant Saint-Clément Aqueduct stretching west. Loop back through the cathedral and the ancient Faculty of Medicine, then visit the Fabre Museum on the Esplanade Charles-de-Gaulle.

For something stranger, walk east through Polygone into Ricardo Bofill's monumental Antigone quarter. With more time, the Anatomy Museum inside the medical school and the eccentric Villa des Cent Regards on the city's edge will appeal to anyone with a taste for the unusual.
