The Têt Valley and the surrounding Pyrénées-Orientales offer several easy excursions from Vernet-les-Bains. Prades, just down the valley, has a fine Baroque church, a weekly market, and is the base for the annual Pablo Casals chamber music festival. Villefranche-de-Conflent, a few kilometres away, is a remarkably preserved medieval fortified town and the departure point for the Petit Train Jaune narrow-gauge railway, which winds through spectacular mountain scenery all the way up to Latour-de-Carol.
