The English Falls (Cascades des Anglais) take their name from the British and Irish visitors who flocked to Vernet during the 19th century spa boom, many of whom made this pleasant waterfall excursion a standard part of their stay. The walk from town takes about 45 minutes along a marked trail that climbs through oak and chestnut forest above the Cady valley, passing the ruins of the old village of Vernet before reaching the falls.
The cascade itself is modest but satisfying — a series of drops through a rocky gorge, with good swimming pools below in summer. The trail continues beyond the falls toward the higher mountain routes, and the junction here is a useful orientation point for anyone planning to walk toward the Mariailles refuge or the Canigou summit.
