Amboise town centre is very compact and best covered on foot. The chateau, Clos Lucé, the old town, and the Loire waterfront are all within fifteen minutes' walk of each other.
For the Pagode de Chanteloup (3 km south), cycling is the most pleasant option — bike hire is available from several outlets near the town centre and from the train station. A taxi from the centre costs around €8–12.
The Loire à Vélo cycle route passes directly through Amboise and is well-signed; this is the best way to reach Tours, Blois, and the other Loire châteaux without a car. The route is almost entirely flat and uses dedicated paths or quiet roads.
The Navette Bleue shuttle bus connects the train station to the chateau and Clos Lucé in season. Check times at the tourist office near the chateau entrance.
